???'s on b16

ok, i dont know if this is in the right forum, i think it is.
well tomorrow is the day my working week ends and i get payed on friday. at which time i will deposit all my checks i have saved up and i will purchase my b16 as soon as my checks clear. i have a couple ???'s though.
1- i want to get the b16 jdm because it has 170 hp compare to the usdm 160 hp, but what will i have to change in the b16 jdm in order for it to pass inspection in NJ?
2- what do i have to do prior to taking my car to inspection in order to make my car quot;legalquot; in NJ so the people dont give me crap? is there a process similar to the one in LA where they go to get therir swap checked for smog and all that crap and then they get a sticker saying what swap they got in the car?
am sure i got a couple more just cant think of them now, will post later
thanx

thanxthe difference in hp between the jdm and usdm versions are minimal at best.  in japan, power is rated in ps, NOT hp.  ps is slightly less than hp, so 170 ps is more like 165 hp.  you cant feel the difference.  if the restrictions are similar to carb, then you should get a usdm motor, of the same year or newer than your car (ie a 91 car with a 93 motor is fine, a 93 car with a 91 motor is illegal), and you must keep all emissions controls devices on both the motor and the car.  any overlap (ie wh at you swap out) needs to be replaced with the newer stuff- all the sensors on the motor need to be from the newer motor, not the older car.

.damn so if my cars a 98 i cant get a 96 or 97 engine?

.guess not soldiaboy, thanx handlebarsfrs, so how are the laws in CT about swapping engines?
also, the b16 sir2 is only 92-95 correct, and also just a jdm motor right? so if i was to get a usdm motor i would have to get the b16a2 which is 96+ and with obd2 correct?
i was also just trying to get the 92-95 b16 sir2 because it was obd1 and i wouldnt have to mess wit that, but if i get obd2 i will have to get a obd2-obd1 converter! man, more cash

depends on what motor you want to get.  I think, if it doesn't change obd series then you can get an older engine.  say, a 00 civic ex has an obd II motor, and so does a 99, so you could take the 99 and stick it in the 00.  I think 96-00 are all obd II.

correct me if i'm wrong on any of that

.dont waste time and trouble if you dont know how to get through all the smog and legal issues.  save up another check or so.  get $500-$1k more and you can get a b18c1. you will be happier.

.just get the us b16 its only 10 hp difference and you can add shit to make up that 10 HP

.i live in NJ.  you dont have to do anything, its a fuckin engine.  we dont get our engine checked hear, only the cat.  BTW - what area NJ u in?

lol! you dont get your engine checked? do you go to the local DMV for inspection of do you go to some shop that is qualified to do inspections? because the inspection station here by where i live at , i think , not sure, but i think they look under the hood, not sure
am in central jersey, like 5 mins off of rt 1

obx- you are correct, keeping it within the same obd range keeps it an easy swap. but in california, that doesnt matter- the motor has to be newer than the car, no exceptions.
