How do you clean a CF hood that has gotten cloudy?

Lots of pieces of my hood have cloudy stuff on it..what is it? sun damage? water damage? can I clean it off w/ CLR or something?

.oxidation. just sand it down and put a clear coat on it. cf hoods dont come with clear coats just a gel coat. its in ur best interest to get any cf piece clear coated. or anything for that matter.

.gel coat doesn't oxidize.
If it's a VIS hood, you may be getting what happened to mine. If you look really closely, it almost looks like the gel coat is separating from the weave. I tried everything from rubbing compound to an orbital buffer.......nothing worked.   You might end up having to paint it.

.Mine has the same problem. I had the gel coat sanded off and clear coated. Looks brand new (except where the sun faded the CF to a light green) I'll post pics if need be.

.i got like 3 green spots lol. my whoel hood is white..its embarrassing lol

.But think of that 10lbs your saving...now thats something to be proud of

.After a year my cf hood looked like crap. It was a vis hood. The guy I bought it from said it should be waxed once a week. I think a good buff would of helped it. After having one I don't think I would get one again unless the car is garaged.

.i dont htink its a gel coat dudes....its resin

.Just go sleeper and paint it you save the weight and still look stock if it is an oem style hood

.CF Hoods all come with Gel Coat not resin i used to work at a shop. The gel Coat tends to turn cloudy and at times even Yellow over time from being out in bad weather and mostly from the sun the best thing to do it to go to a body shop and have them sand down the hood and clear coat it its will last alot longer that way and look a hundred times better.

Gel Coat...           Dull...

Clear Coat...        Shiny....

Yup, I second this!  Plus Jon really knows what he is talking about!  I'm not sure where you live, but when it snows here in NJ I put back my stock hood and keep the CF hood in the garage.

Thanks Glenn. Just get your CF Hood Sanded Down and Sprayed wit some clear and you'll be good. the hood will look better than when you first got it and you wont have to worry about it yellowing or hazing up.

.yeah mine is totally fcuked... the ENTIRE gel coat is GONE from not waxing it.  The hood flew up so the 2 upper corners are slightly cracked off.  I think imma get the corners fixed a paint the entire thing.. maybe keep the center where the vent is cf... dunno yet.  I tried to wax it with NO gel coat left... now i have white swirls EVERYWHERE!!!

wat you can do that looks pretty good in order to keep some CF get a decal printed up and put it on the hood and then have them paint over it and when u rip it off w.e design or Company on the decal will be displayed in CF on the hood.

.i dont have MUCH cf left.  only the front 4quot; has gel coat left.  Im not really sure how safe it is to sand on the cf str8 since i have MO MORE gel coat.  I like ur idea though... S R 2 0 vertically down the center.  AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
