If I keep it, I want to lower the Spec slightly. But I know nothing about what my options are. I want to do it properly so coilovers right? Not just springs?
Looking for suggestions as usual!
.getting lowering springs only, and using the stock shocks will make your stock shocks wear out faster.
the amount of money spent getting springs, and then shocks, is almost the cost of a coilover. the shocks on the coilovers are designed with the springs on the coilover in mind, so the shocks on the coilovers will last long.
so, if you are low on money and just wanna lower the car now, then get springs. or else, save up for coilover because you will want the adjustable ride height for winter.
there is a ksports coilover group buy going on right now on this forum, check it out. it should be 800-900usd shipped to canada.
.Thanks man. You guys are great.
It looks like Ksports or Teins are among the popular choices? Any preference?
.Get coilovers. End of story. I have Super streets and they rock for street and are excellent for autox.
Or, if you really know what you're doing and you are planning on racing the car (track or autoX) get a set of custom valved Konis to match the spring rate of whatever springs you choose.
.I guess I'm looking at it from more of a cosmetic point of view. I'm not likely to autox. That said, I'm not going to cheap out at the expense of future problems (just getting springs).
I'm guessing Ksports are my best bet. Do they have different models? They must, I'm just being lazy about not searching...
.If you are just looking for cosmetics, get Tein Basics or Nismos. The Ksports are only 1 model, and they are VERY stiff from what I've heard. Not to mention they have way more adjustability than you'll ever need if you are only looking for a cosmetic drop.
.I am very happy with my ksports
Yes, they are stiffer than stock, but manageable for the street. Handling is improved 100x better
.Group buy on this site = $775 USD shipped for the KSports.
No idea if that is good or not. Better than this though ($1700 CDN).

.i've got the ksport coilovers. definitely a stiff ride, but worth it in the end because of the improvement in handling.

lol at their prices. How can they hope to be competetive? $500+ for a Nismo CAI? $1000+ for the exhaust? $1500+ for the Nismo suspension? Yeah, right
As for Ksports, if you want to get them locally, Image in motion sells them for $1200 for our application, if you say you are part of revscene. The Ksports are the best bang for the buck, but they cost about the same as a set of Tein Basics or Nismos (if you shop around online). I wouldn't want my suspension any stiffer than it already is for daily driving, and my spring rates are 6/5 whereas the ksports are 8/7. Just my personal opinion, as my car is still a street car that does double duty for autox. If it was a pure autocross/track car, I'd for sure go higher for spring rate. Plus, if you don't know what you are doing, adjustable shocks are useless.
.I use universal coil overs with no perches and it works fine...if you begin to rub your wheel wells just put a few spacers in after the coilovers settle...i got a 4quot; drop and it will still take a few years for your shocks to go out so dont worry about em till they do then you can spend the 600 bucks for new adjustable shocks...no reason in replacing what works though.

actually the vendor sale that is going on here for the ksports coilovers, with a custom, softer spring rate if you so desire, cost roughly 900cdn shipped. and then you can ask for a lower declaration value so you can avoid duty.

umm does anyone else find this reply....very very interesting to read?
.I have had my Hamp;R sport springs which lowered my car aprox. 1.5'' on an otherwise stock suspension for two years now and I've had no problems at all. If you just want to lower you car to give it a different look why spend all that money? JMO

Uh...yeah, I'd ignore that reply.
.My car was 3 years old before I bought 04SPecV's Hamp;R springs. When I went to install them, the right front shock was already dead.
If it is just cosmetics, then get the springs. If you want to lower and have a decent ride, buy Lee's Koni's and Tein springs. If you want to race, get the K-sports or Tein coil-overs. |
