install aftermarket radio in stock cd location?
I have a 98 civic ex with a stock radio, with the stock cd-player mounted behind the cup holder. I am asking if anyone has ever installed their aftermarket radio (I have an Alpine) in the stock cd-player location, behind the cup holders. This way I could leave the stock radio in the factory location, and no one looking into my car would be able to tell that I have an aftermarket system.
My previous civic was broken into 3 times (have had two alpine cd players stolen along with a couple amps and subs) and finaly the car completely stolen. I am thinking that leaving the stock radio in the stock location would help to deter any more potential car audio thieves.
any sugestions, much appreciated.

I dont have a picture but I will take a picture of the stock setup and post it, it would be sweet if I could mount the alpine in place of the stock cd---and leave the factory radio where it is.

I know which location you are talking about, and I think it will depend on if it's a true single DIN size (the size of a normal size single CD player). I would think then it would just be a matter of unplugging your harness and re-routing the wiring down to that location. I believe Metra makes a harness adapter that should help you with this. As far as actually mounting the head unit behind the cup holders, just try an aftermarket mounting kit. Sorry for being vague, but my CD player is a single CD OEM headunit and I don't have the quot;add-onquot; CD player.

thanks for the response, I will probably take everything apart this weekend and try it out.
.Not the clearest, but here's a decent pic of the stock radio/bottom mount cd setup.
