will a aftermarket tach read a slightly higher rpm than the OEM in dash tach? i just installed an autometer 5quot; tach and i still have the oem tach hooked up and it seems like the autometer is like 200-300 rpms higher.....is this because honda is trying to limit u buy those few rpms just to be on the safe side or is the autometer just more accurate....anybody know or seen this before?
........................... why do you want an aftermarket tach when you have one already?
.the stock tachs are off a bit

exactly. your new tach is more accurate.
.not really, they both read from the exact same signal, they are both accurate- its just because you are splitting the signal, the aftermarket seems to be getting a stronger signal than the stock tach.
.yes i agree but y a aftermarket tach? a well placed shift would have been good. What brand and model tach is it?

he says in the first post it's an autometer 5quot; tach.
.yeah the only reason i got it was b/c my friend was sellin it for cheap and with my swap the redline on a b16 is 8200 and my stock tach only goes up to 8000 so instead of guessin i might as well get that 8200 exactly and i like the shift light....so u guys think this autometer is just more accurate? also whats the best way to disconnect the stock tach so i dont have to keep lookin at 2 needles
.i talked to somebody who has an autometer and he said his was like 90-100 higher so whats the deal with this 300 more than stock tach bullshit....is the spliced connection and if so is there a way to make a single connection just to the autometer and not the guage in the cluster

so he can rev past 10
.yes i know the motor only revs to 8200, not 10k haha, but it would be better for me to just have this tach which i payed 75 for and it cost like 275 for a cobalt rather than spend like at least 150 for an Si guage cluster...so does anyone have any positive imput as to why the autometer is so high
.nevermind i mixed that up the autometer is like 300 less than the stock, i think i said the opposite....do u think honda guages are just that innacurate? |
