cone filter

warning- im a noob and know very little about cars

i own a 2002 xe with 55000 miles on it.
i put a kamp;n confilter on about half a year ago. it ran perfectly fine for a bout 4 or 5 months. then one night on my way home from work the car had a hard time starting and when driving the car would buck and even completely turn off once in a while.. i researched a little bit and saw that people were having similiar problems that were being fixed by recalls so i brougt it to the dealer (after putting the stick intake back on) and they did two recalls.. the ecu housing recall and the knock sensor recall. the recalls seemed to help a bit but the problem was still there.  i brought it to a local shop and they replaced an 02 sensor.  the car ran beautifully for 2 days and then the problem started again.  i brought it to another local shop and they said they were 90% sure it was the computer. so they replaced it with a used computer and now it has been running fine for about a week. my question is could the cone filter have cause these problems and would it be a bad idea to put the cone filter back on?

.As long as you aren't touching any of the sensors when you put on the cone filter you should be alright.  Sounds like you had a string of sensor/ecu problems.  A while back I had my Crank Position Sensor go bonkers on me and thought it might have been something related to my mods and it wasn't. It needed replacement  just because it was a faulty part.  Hope this helps.  I must say its a damn good thing you took your cone filter off before bringing it in.

.Whats funny is, I had the recall done when they scheduled it.  Then a little while ago the CPS went bad again.  When the shop took it out it was ballooned on either side of the sensor.  Real good parts we have in our cars LOL

.thanks for your help zappler.. im probably gona wait another week to make sure my car is actually fixed this time then put the filter back on.

.haha thats cool, but these recalls, you take the car and they fix whatever was recalled for free? i got my 02 xe,in 2004 of the dealer, do you think they've fixed it? or should i take it? and if i take it now would they still do it even do its late as hell.?
