Wideband Meter Install PICS

Parts/Tools Needed:
AEM UEGO Wideband or Another Brand
Zip Ties
Electrical Tape
52mm Gauge Pod or Holder
Wire Cutters
Razor Blade
Wrenches for Str8 Pipe or Cat removal
Welder
Drill
Jack/Stands

Okay well I bought the AEM UEGO Wideband from the group buy on the 20 forum, I am very happy with it.  Actually I bought 5 of them and looks like I will be buying more since more people want them over here.  The thing I didn’t like is it wasn’t supplied with a Gauge Pod or Holder so I went out and bought a 52mm One.  You can see in this PIC everything the Wideband Meter kit came with:  You have the Bosch Sensor, The Harness for the Sensor (which is long as hell), The Wideband Meter, The harness for Power, Ground, and data logging outputs, and my gauge holder I bought for 12 bucks or so).  What you can’t see is the Bung that is required to install the Sensor, I had misplaced it.1. Disconnect the Negative Battery Terminal since you will be messing with electrical stuff.

2.   I decided I would mount my sensor in the Straight Pipe, I recommend this for many reasons, one of which is you can share with someone else if they need a tune…it makes a good package deal if you ever sell the wideband and most importantly it is out of the way.  Other ideas are the down pipe or Turbo outlet pipe.   SO you need to Jack the car up and take out the Straight Pipe3.  Once the straight pipe is out, you have to install the bung in it..best way is to drill a hole the size you will need for the sensor4.  Then since you are going to be welding a bung on the hole, sand it down so it is nice and smooth:5.  The place your Bung on top of the hole and weld it in place, then cool it down before going any further or trying to screw in the sensor.
6.  Then once it is cool, put the Straight Pipe back in  and install the sensor…no pic of this but you know what to do.

7.  Then you need to run the Harness to the Sensor from the inside of  the car.  What I did was ran it through the shifter.  You have to cut through the rubber Shift boot and push the wire through.
8.  Its now a good idea to test fit your Gauge, I like it on the right side since my right eye is my strong Eye…Then hold both harnesses up to the Gauge, The Sensor Harness and the Power/Ground/Datalog Harness and see how much slack you are going to need for the harnesses exposed and running to the Meter. Don’t secure the gauge yet.
9.  Now zip tie off as much of the Sensor harness you will not need and get it tucked up and out of the way.  You can now concentrate on the Wires Harness.  This is really easy,  if you are not hooking up and data logging software it is just a power and ground wire.  I ran the Power and Ground to the same wires as my Turbo Timer.  Splice in, Twist the wires together, Solder the wires together, and tape them up nice and clean.  Sorry this pic I just couldn’t focus, this is before I taped the wires up10.  Now all you have to do is tuck all the wires away, secure the gauge pod somehow. I used double sided tape for now, and start it up.  Here is a pic of the installed unit.Next up, 550cc injector install

.good looking install.

I'm partial to the zeitronics zt2... just no money for it atm

.I NEED a wideband, but its too expensive..
Good Stuff man.  Nice install.

I second that.  Not that I don't like the AEM unit, but the zeitronics unit has a bit more datalogging capability then the AEM unit.

Still, nice write up Daryl.

Still, nice write up Daryl.  Thanks, I really like this one...it is compatible with most datalogging software..I juts may buy the EMS though..

I'll be installing my Zeitronix Monday

.I've been looking too.  The TECIII would love that running all the time instead of just it's tune sessions.

Save the money towards management with datalogging as you said
I'm there but I never wanted to tune my sick car, especially early on.  But now that it has around 20hrs of auth tech tuning after many repairs and redos, I want to make sure everything stays in check...and f around a little more
I need to make room for a couple switches too.  The TECIII can datalog without a laptop in the car.  It's limited to iirc a minute, with a slower sample rate in the TEC but if the car is acting funny I can throw that switch and plug the laptop in later to check it..then go run it real time plugged in and check...you know better then I do
My car has behaving well enough that I feel comfortable putting all my theoretical reading to practice this summer.  Electromotive has had wideband capability since 2 upgrades ago so that ga is perfect. Did yours come with the extra white face and silver bezel?

that's not datalogging, that's having an analog output of AFR represented on a 0-5v or 0-3v scale.

datalogging would be output of the data as serial, without having it be thrown around a bunch of digital to analog converters.

datalogging would be output of the data as serial, without having it be thrown around a bunch of digital to analog converters. Its got (2) wires for output (1) is the 0-5V wire and the other (1) is the Serial Output.  Yes it is for dattalogging, if I can afford the software soon I will get it...
