I got a letter in the mail recently about a new recall with my '03 Spec. Has to do with an ECU reflash due to a possibility of falsely reading the Crank Angle Sensor and may cause stalling. The recall calls for an ECU reflash only, but I had the Crank Angle and Crank Position Sensors replaced approximately 4 months ago due to a problematic CPS.
So I took the car in on Thursday afternoon, they reflashed the ECU and I was on my way. Now, before when I would disengage the clutch when coming to a stop, the revs would dip a bit to around 500rpm or so, then come back up to normal idle (750-800rpm). Now under the same conditions, instead of the rpm dropping, it jumps to 1200-1500rpm (from around 1000rpm when I disengage the clutch) for 2-3 seconds then slowly falls back to normal idle. I thought it might just need to relearn the idle, but even after 4 days of driving (~400kms) it still does this.
Has anyone who had this recent recall done experience similar behaviour?
.I didnt have a recall for that, but I took my car in for that same reason, RPM idling too high. My car would sit at around 1,500-2k in neutral even AFTER the car has been warmed up.
I took it in, they blamed it on my grounding wires that I added and said that I blew the ECM. After they replaced it, the car was fine. I dont know of any recall for that, but take it to the dealership and they should fix it under warrany.
.interesting. im going to have the recall done so ill let you know if this happens. let me ask you something, the letter says, this problem we have lost some power. did you notice any? if you gained any back? i wonder what they meant about that.
.they prolly changed some tuning for idle running for better emissions..wouldn't worry about it

It dosen't feel like there's any power loss. But without it going on a dyno, I won't say forsure. I doubt you could tell if you lost 1 or 2hp anyways.
Unfortunatly I'm out of warranty. I have 142000kms on it.
In regards to the reply about your car constantly idleing at 1500-2000, mine just hangs at 12-1500 for a few seconds then drops to normal. Was this the same symptom?
Thanks
.Odd. I had my ECU reprogrammed the other week due to the recall and while at first it acted a little strange (and I mean a little) after a few days of driving it feels like it did before they reflashed it..A week after getting that recall done, my SES light turned on. It was throwing the code 0507. I did the idle relearn thing and it went away. Not sure if they're related.
.i got 0507 after doing the 03 crank angle sensor recall. im going to the dealer and tell them that. hopefully they will just fix it for free.
.My rpms do the exact same thing... when i first noticed i thought it was really weird, but i eventually stopped caring. The car still runs strong, and thats good enough for me.
.Actually I just got the recall done yesterday and it seems it HELPED my car. My car used to be an awful starter (would have the LEAVE the key turned all the way in the igniton for a few seconds, and THEN hit the clutch) in the cold. In the cold, it would weakly purr up to about 11 rpm before nearly choking back down again, and then finally finding idle. When i fired it up today for the first time in the cold it roared to about 1300 rpm and stayed that way until car warmed up. I'm DAMN happy with that man, I used to think starting was my car's achilles heel. Lets just hope the reprogramming doesn't correspond with a subsequent deterioration in gas mileage. Anyways, anyone else have it change for the better?

Same thing here. Recall done on Saturday, crazy @zz 1700rpm and worse idle all week. SES light today.
*sigh*
What is this, Microsoft Windows Update? Service Pack 2? Taking your life into your own hands by having it done is unacceptable. Having to be inconvenienced by going to the dealer twice in a week is unacceptable. If Nissan is going to have so many flippin' recalls on the car, fine....but at least don't make them amateur hour.
.Mine does this exact same thing. It's really weird too. Sometimes you'll sorta be coasting into an intersection and all of a sudden the car accelerates a little bit. Or braking without the clutch engaged... same thing. It also revs much higher on start up for me. Oh well, I had the recall done and drove better than I had all season at the last autocross. Maybe it was a good thing?
.Well, I had mine quot;fixedquot;. Allegedly. The dealer said the volume idle learn didn't quot;takequot; the first time. Make up your mind--will ya? ....are they effin' azalea plant seeds not growing in topsoil this season, or is this a realtime embedded computer controlling a modern distributorless ignition/coil on spark, fuel injection engine?
And of course, even after that, the car still idles erratically. I'll just wait patiently for the SES light to turn on again. The dealer service dept is really starting to be like my own personal Cheers. I go in, and everybody knows my name. I'm beginning to lose my sense of humor of being told quot;Mr. C* is in the housequot; everytime I come in, though. Which is getting dang near weekly...
.Your not the only one. As soon as I got the recall done (I was the first ECM recall they did on a Sentra at this dealership), I found that my idle was going a bits nuts. Doesn't do it all the time, therefore its going to be hard to replicate the problem at the dealership. I'm going to wait until they get more complaints or Nissan comes out with another recall to fix the first recall.
.mine is doing the same thing, at idle, the revs are a little higher, and that is after I brough my car in for the 03 crank shaft sensor recall thing 2 weeks ago. My SES light is on, and I cant seem to get it off, even after doing the reset procedure, with and without a stopwatch. Was wodnering if anyone else had this problem, and what's the best way to remedy this cause im in a dilemma. |
