Any way to fix the shifter knob vibration on an SE?
I've read before that shifter vibration on an SE is a normal thing. I'm wondering if anyone knows what causes it, and if it can be fixed. I have to think that thing sitting there vibrating all the time has got to be wearing something out...
.AFAIK, it's only wearing out your nerves
Spend $8 on the ES shifter bushing. It'll tighten up the vibration and help your shifts more dramatically than changing to synthetic fluid.
Seriously.
Go order one.
Now.
.All the B1X 5speed cars use a rod shifter. This means there is a rod directly connect from the shifter to the transmission. While there are some rubber bushings in the connections its essentially directly connected. That means you are getting all the vibrations from the drivetrain (engine and tranny) itself.
Adding he ES bushing will actually tighten things up and cause more vibrations but it is a very good mod as the shifts will feel much more direct as you have replaced the rubber bushing with a poly one.
The vibration is quite normal.
.I tried to do some searching for the part# to the energy suspension shifter bushings, and found two answers. Some people are using 7.1103 and some are using 7.1109G. Which one should we order?
.Anyone?
.7.1103 is what I have on my SE. Also, my vibrations are so bad now that i can actually hear something rattling... very annoying on interstate driving
.Yeah, mine is rattling too, but I believe it's from the spring that is attached to the shifter under the car. Mine keeps coming off. That reminds me, I have to get back under there and rehook it.
.yeah... ever since i installed the Bamp;M SS and the ES bushings at the same time... my 4th gear is so hard to get into and if i push all the way left quickly, i can hear it clank against the heat shield (i think it is the heatshield) and now it rattles... DAMNIT!
.When I put my Bamp;M in, I had to cut out a portion of the heat shield, then put some washers inbetween the heat shield and the bottom of the car to space it away from the shifter. I get no rattling from that. I went ahead and ordered the 7.1103 bushings. Paid $6.49 for them with $6.99 shipping. Pretty good deal I think...
.yeha i think mine were the same cost but with $5 for shipping... it definitely feels better. the rattling i have isnt from the heatshield though, its gotta be something else... almost sounds like a bolt is loose or something, i dunno
.I noticed this too, about the same time the motor mounts began to sag. Seems like there is less rubber to isolate vibrations. Mine is going in for new motor mounts anyway, so I'll see if it helps.
.yeah my side mount is shot... i can see the tears in the rubber and the 2 bottom ones have the ES inserts but i dunno how they are holding up. A new mount cheapest online is like $120 and i dont wanna spend that just for a mount.

I'd think thats part of the problem. ES inserts make vibration worse everywhere. If you want it to be smooth - You need NISSAN brand new stock mounts
.The main purpose of the ES inserts is to help stop wheel hop during a hard launch. My car still hops like crazy though..

Thats funny, i cant even get mines to peel out on take-off (not really trying to tho) i just mash it once i already engaged in gear. Eh, either way i love my Sentra, i actually like it more then the 350Z. |
