Will this work? 316, decide, advice, really

I have a 99 Dakota with a 3.9L 4x4, will a 44RE from a 98 Dakota with a 316 4x4 bolt right on?

I can get the 44RE for $300 with 120,000mi or I can rebuild mine for $700, I don't really have the money to spend to get mine rebuilt, but would it be a bad idea just to get the 44RE? I can't decide what to do.

.Well yes it would bolt on... 120K? yes bad ideal... 44RE is a mid life rated transmission that being a 150K mile tranny. Then on top of that you do not know how well the previous owner treated it or maintained it.

I know it sucks but ur best option here is to get it rebuilt and get a warranty.
