radar detector

hey does n e one know what is a good kind of radar detector to buy....i looked at best buy and they said cobra was agoood brand?

.Yes cobra is a good one, so is valentine 1, bel and others.. stay away from radio shack.

.Escort is better than cobra. You were at Best buy and that is the best there. It goes Escort, then cobra, and last whistler from best to ok. The Escorts have a better range and better filter than the others. Go with the 850 ( I think thats the number) it has a volt meter built into it along with a bunch of other cool things.

.I bought a Whistler for around $60. Its Ok, and does the Job. It has kept me out of tickets. I pass cops all the time that are clocking, and it picks them up before they pick up on me. The only problem is that it is too damn quiet. When I have my music cranked up, I cannot hear it beep. I solved this by taking the cover off the radar, and soldering some speaker wire to the poles on the little speaker inside the detector. I drilled a small hole in the side of the detector, and ran the wire out it, and put the cover back on.  I then ripped apart a crappy set of preamped computer speakers, got the amp, and one of the speakers, and wired it to the radar. I put a volume control from radio shack inline with the new speaker. I found a place out of sight to put the speaker, and amp, and mounted the volume knob neatly in my dash. (drilled a hole in a unused slot beside my cruise control switch and mounted it inside). It works great, I can make it as loud as I'd like and turn it down when it gets annoying. .Thats a pretty sweet idea. Yeah whistler and cobra both aren't very loud.

.the V1 is the best one imo, but it cost 400 2nd best is the escort everyone talking about the 8500 i think which cost 300. when i get some money im gonna get the 8500

.I hear good things about Valentine 1 too.. but i've heard a couple complaints.

That is goes off for no reason and then when there is a cop... nothing.

.my friend has the escort 8500 ... that is the best damn radar dectector i have seen. out of all my friends ... that one works the best no matter what. it picks up everything .. from automatic doors to the 5-0 .. it is kinda spendy but ya kno what they say, you get what you pay for

maybe if you want to pay that sorta money for a radar detector.. that you should rethink your actions in your vehicle...

.lol...aki...it's a trend! actually blowncivic started it as a joke, and then another user got a sig made by blown, and then blown made me a sig this afternoon. just sorta as jokes...i'll change mine soon!

.but your car is too sexy to be replaced in your sig by spinners... I've seen one single pair of spinners that I like.. a BEAUTIFUL Coronet.. the outside parts that spins is painted to match the car.  Actually looks pretty nice.  

They actually sorta make my headache worse!

.300 bucks is a lot for a radar but if you get a speeding ticket just for like 10-15 mph over its like 150 + another 55 in court fees, trust me I know

.or you could just deal with a shitty one until a friend upgrades from his escort 8500 and sells it so you for $150.    thats what i did... couldnt be happier!
