I had a question for anyone out there who can help me. My sister just bought a brand new 2004 civic sedan. When she bought it it still had the cover from the factory. She only has 43 miles on it. It is a nice car. The dealer told her it was the vip model. It has side airbags and no power:windows, locks, or mirrors. She bought the car cause I told her how much I like all the things you could do to civics and so we can get are crew together by next summer. She wants to fix it up, but first I want to know what kind of power is it making stock? I was thinkin about buyin her a cold air intake for a gift for her new car. It is also an auto. Will some one let me know what kind of power it is making stock.
.i think the quot; vip quot; version has the EX engine in it, correct me if im wrong...but if it does its got 127hp and 107 ft/lb torque....and since its an auto its prolly got about 105-110 wheel horsepower....7th gen civics arent very good for building and making go fast, they make good show cars tho. but if u want to make it fast u could swap engines, turbo, supercharge, lots of things...its just that car isnt the best base for it

The car listed is my sisters. She wants more lectury( can't spell that word). I think she wants at least 400hp. I don't know anything about the new motors or civics. I only know about 92-00 civics and motors. I think she also plans on keepin the motor that it has. I'll get the engine number and let you know what motor it is.

I'm sure you know that getting 400+ HP on a Civic will cost you a lot of money...
You're going to want to swap out the D series and drop in the K...

I know it will cost alot of money. My sister plans on getting as much hp that the motor is capable of. I know she can get 300hp easy. The motor is a d17a1.
.well, 400hp is not the most realistic number for a civic...in reality u dont need that much....like a big ol 4000 pound luxury car that has 600 hp runs mid 13's say, but a 250-300hp civic will run at least those times....and a 400hp civic wont be the best daily driver, ur gonna need to take off some weight, and that will sacrifice luxury.
but
if u want the most power out of a 7th gen ur donna need to swap out the d17a2 ( if thats what it has, its the ex engine ) for a k20a2, which will give u roughly 200base horsepower or so, ull prolly be running mid to high 14's with just that, and if u really need to go faster, u could turbo it, then ull be hauling....that is kinda a lot of work, as well as $$, but it can be done.
as for her wanting to keep the motor she has, u wont be able to get 400hp out of the d series. u just wont. u could turbo the shit out of it, and be going pretty fast, but for bigger boost which = faster car, ull need to build it up...she would be much better of with the k20 swap ( the rsx engine btw )
:edit: just read ur post...so she has the d17a1, lx or dx engine. that motor has 115 horespower, and i seriously seriously doubt ull be able to suck 300 horses out of that thing with out a lot of hard work....im tellin u a swap is best bang for u r buck if u want those numbers
.HAHAHHAAA.......you're not gettin' 400 hp outta a D17a1 sorry to say!!! A boosted K20 will get you into the 300's.
.dude tell her she should have bought a rex and she would have been better off.
.just take it one mod at a time and keep your goals realistic, an intake is a good place to start
.start with intake, sell when turbo comes... pointless.
if she is seriously considering performance, the civic is definately not a good start. its an econmical car and doesnt push out much power overall. a brand new 2004 sedan AUTOMATIC pushing 400+ horses? most likely not.. if you that car to go fast, its gonna cost a buttload of money. the choices to make that civic go fast is turbo and/or built motor.. which is not worth investing into because as much money your going to invest into that civic, half of what u spend onto a b/k series engine would push out as much power and potential as that d17a1. think about it wisely.. its automatic, non-vtec, ultra low emissions vehicle, doesnt like aftermarket parts. its meant to be one of the best econimcal cars today, not a performance machine

so true so true! stick wit looks on those 4 door sedans!! i mean u can do some easy bolt ons like i/h/e but other than that there basicallly no point since its an auto!! if u mess wit that ur gonna be burning fuel like crazy and not get the gas millage civics are suppose to get
.lol 400 ponies on a d17.. i think NOT!

You'll maybe hit 200 if you go NA... That's going with the high tuners, Spoon and Mugen.
Turbo Si - Take a look at this Si that started with 160 BHP. He's now making 262 WHP with boost.
Mugen Si - Take a look at this Si that started with 160 BHP, later swapped out for the an K20A (220 BHP). He's now making 240 going NA.
I'm telling you man... Engine swap is the best thing you can do right now if you want to even take a step towards your dream.

I guess 400 and 300 are high numbers. I don't know anything about the new motors. Like I stated above. She is goin to try to get the most hp out of that motor. I'll try to get her to swap. I forgot that it is a sohc D-series motor(I think).

Yeah, all D-series are SOHC.
The HX and EX come in VTEC... The rest don't.
Whatever does happen, good luck to you and your sister. |
