rev limiter??

how damaging is it to the engine to hit the rev limiter.... i was just wondering because i did it the other night on accident and was not sure of the side effects.
thanks
tim

.im no expert but i think the limiter is there to stop you from doing any damage.  im sure you could still do some damage if you abuse it

.It should be ok. I bounce off it many times in one night. But yeah. It's not really good for the motor if you do it often.

.Most modern Rev limiters work on the basis of de-fueling, they cut the amount of fuel to the engine. When you hit them, the car seems to go quot;limpquot; until the revs drop. Ignition based systems tend to be harsher when you hit them, often causing bucking or back firing. The ignition based systems are harder on the engine; but as either are invoked at the lower threshold of potential disaster, hitting either on a regular basis is not a good idea...............

.lol ya i didnt think that hitting it on a regular basis would be a good idea... i was just wondering the damage that it does or could do to the motor

Rev limiters do little, if any, damage to the engine; however, running the engine at RPM levels that invoke them will ultimately cause damage......

.the damage wouldnt be from the limiter activating, but from the wear and extreme heat and friction in the upper RPM ranges, im guessing, so if anyone smarting knows i would be interesed also

.The long quot;armquot; and rod angle in the Spec V engine causes the piston speed (at the Spec redline) to approach that of pistons in F1 engines. Galling of the piston skirts, ringland damage caused by ring flutter and high rod bearing loadings are usually the cause of catastrophic failures............

.every time some stupid honda pulls up to me i hit mine lol stupid hondas scare em every time

.yeah .... stupid quot;HONDA's quot;.whoa double post

Also I don't get why hitting the rev limiter would scare a honda. I would think they'd be laughing cause you can only rev to 6300 or whatever the QR limiter is at.
