Yup, it was the other way around... just sad, poor guy was a rookie.
.I have wondered why OSHA never gets involved in this sport in this day and age of over-regulation. He is an employee particupating in a high risk activikty that could obviously be made safer. Speeds could be lowered to 100 mph. The cars could be made safer, etc. I mean seriously if I stab my self with a pencil at work OSHA is all over my company.
Oh I forgot, silly me, it would be political suicide to enforce this law, just like many laws are selectively ignored.
Amy way..too bad for him. RIP

Sure I'm being retarded. But If they and OSHA followed the letter of the law like they do for other large companies NASCAR would be racing in Mexico.
.you're prolly right
.Man, that was a horrific crash, here's the news report:

NASCAR already has a race in Mexico.
I think the difference between working in your office and on the racetrack is the expectation of danger. A race driver has the expectation and understanding that the job is dangerous and potentially life-threatening. You, however, expect your office to be safe.
Slowing the cars to 100 MPH is counter-productive; the entire point is to go faster. Open-wheel cars are particulary dangerous because there's not much structure to protect the driver.
Would you expect law enforcement to go after NFL players for assault when they tackle each other?

Hmm, that would be fun to see! Maybe they can make it part of the game!

How 'bout boxing or ultimate fighting? lol At least in motorsport the idea is not to hit each other and contact is incidental (mostly).
Tragedy about Dana. RIP

I worked on construction sites all of my life and in my time I have seen safety standards improve whereby dangers on work sites have improved dramatically.
Companies are required to insure safety (to the extent possible) of any work site no matter how dangerous. If there is an quot;expectationquot; of danger-it needs to be fixed-period.
OSHA just doesn't have the balls to look into it....yet..it'll happen though.
I think I'll look into it further. Maybe someone will pay me to keep my thoughts to myself.
.f8ck it. not much OSHA can do once a car crashes and another piles into it.
.How do you make racing a safer sport? You add safety devices.. HANS, better roll cages, energy absorbing barriers, etc..
You can't make racing a safe sport... it's impossible.. Accidents are going to happen, and people will die. It's part of the risk involved with motorsports.. There's no way that OSHA could come in and mandate safety standards. It's just not possible.. Sure, they could mandate that you have to use certain safety devices.. but, they can't stop the inevitable. Crashes will happen..
